Logger keeps watch over rotating ovens

A dataTaker product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 12, 2005

A leading food manufacturer has chosen the Datataker DT50 data logger to monitor its rotating ovens to ensure its reputation for providing high quality products is maintained.

The use of rotating ovens has grown significantly with the ever-changing taste requirements of the consumer.

Food manufacturers using either new or an existing range of rotating oven machinery face the ever-present demands of safety in the food industry.

Due diligence is an ever-present fact of life for today's process manufacturers.

Monitoring temperatures of rotating ovens is critical and difficult.

Constant movement of the products within the oven give a challenge to those facing the practical problems of checking ambient and cooking process temperatures.

A leading food manufacturer has chosen the Datataker DT50 data logger to monitor its rotating ovens to ensure its reputation for providing high quality products is maintained.

Following consultation with IDLS, an official distributor for Datataker data acquisition systems and products, three DT50 data loggers have been installed with strategically placed thermocouples within the ovens.

By using four thermocouples within the oven, one for air temperature and one each placed on the product trays (top, middle and bottom) provide an overall picture of the temperature profile throughout the oven.

The sensors are connected directly to the data logger mounted on top of the oven's rotating shaft and data is sent back to the PC using a wireless Ethernet connection.

With measurements taken in real time, all the results are collected on a daily basis and automatic reports are generated in a PDF format.

This gives a fully retrievable source of data should any problems occur.

This information can also be used to fine-tune the cooking process if needed, and being produced in a PDF format, it can be sent by e-mail to any interested party.

Both Datataker and IDLS take pride in the technical support provided by their operations, both before and after initial commissioning and subsequent to the equipment becoming operational.

Using the latest electronics and communication technology Datataker and IDLS can provide systems and solutions for all types of data acquisition applications.
