The SpaceNavigator enables designers working in Maya 8 and 8.5 to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate camera views as well as 3D objects, something that is not possible with a mouse and keyboard.

3Dconnexion's 3D navigation device, SpaceNavigator, now supports designers and artists working in Maya 8 and 8.5 on Linux, delivering intuitive and powerful 3D navigational control.

Compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Linux (Redhat Enterprise Linux WS 3, SuSE 9.0 or greater), 3DxWare for Linux 1.2 and the public beta plug-ins for Maya 8 and 8.5 are now available for download.

The SpaceNavigator enables designers working in Maya 8 and 8.5 to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate camera views as well as 3D objects, something that is not possible with a mouse and keyboard.

Used as a companion to the mouse, in the operator's free hand, the SpaceNavigator gives creative professionals unparalleled control over 3D modelling and rendering, and reduces the clicks necessary to complete common tasks, enabling faster completion of complex animations and simulations.

"3Dconnexion navigation devices unlock the true potential of 3D design by enabling greater insight between the designer and the 3D content", says Rory Dooley, President of 3Dconnexion.

"The SpaceNavigator's extended support for Maya on the Linux platform builds on our continued efforts to ensure compatibility with the leading 3D applications across multiple platforms and caters directly to the needs of today's leading visual effects and animation artists".

The final version of the software, which includes full Linux support for Maya 8 and 8.5, will ship with the SpaceNavigator from the end of March 2007.
