3Dconnexion has announced a free software update for the Spacepilot Pro 3D mouse, enhancing its full-colour LCD Workflow Assistant.

The update helps connect engineers to 3D applications, allowing them to view model information and the name of an activated command when an Intelligent Function Key is pressed on the LCD.

The software update includes a model properties applet, enabling engineers to quickly view key model information on the Spacepilot Pro's LCD Workflow Assistant and enabling easier workgroup collaboration.

The applet is compatible with Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Pro/Engineer and NX, and allows easier access to model statistics such as file size and type, creation date and time, name of the last person to edit the design, and mass, volume and density information.

Intelligent Function Key notification shows users what command was activated, regardless of the applet currently running on the LCD Workflow Assistant, in the form of a pop-up window.

This feature increases interactivity with the Spacepilot Pro, providing more control over the design environment.

Also included is an updated default button setting for Solidworks on the Spacepilot Pro's Intelligent Function Keys, as well as on the Spaceexplorer and Spacepilot Speed Keys.

The 'S' shortcut key in Solidworks has been added as a default command, giving design engineers quicker access to the command shortcut toolbar.
