Electrode design software links with EDM
kit

The latest version of Delcam's PS-Electrode software for the design of electrodes provides a direct link to the Agievision control used on Agie's EDM equipment.

The latest version of Delcam's PS-Electrode software for the design of electrodes provides a direct link to the Agievision control used on Agie's EDM equipment The software can now provide direct programming of the control and so makes the process both faster and less prone to error

With previous versions of PS-Electrode, a setup sheet would be produced which would be used for manual programming of the EDM machine.

The new automated process is much easier and quicker, especially when a number of electrodes are being used on the same component.

In addition, the direct link removes the human error that could always be possible with manual programming.

This extra functionality means that PS-Electrode can now provide a highly automated process, from the receipt of the CAD data for the component to the programming of the EDM machine.

The software was already able to identify the areas where electrodes will be needed, generate the electrode design, select the most suitable blank and holder, and specify the offsets required for the spark gap.

Designs developed in PS-Electrode can be transferred directly to Delcam's PowerMill CAM program for the generation of machining data.

For the most complex examples, or in cases where the original CAD data are of poor quality, PS-Electrode can be used with Delcam's PowerShape hybrid modelling software to step out of the automatic process at any stage, make any adjustments to the design that might be needed, and then return to automatic operation.

Welcoming the development of the direct link, Chris Hewitson, Sales and Marketing Manager with Agie said: "Recent Agie developments have greatly simplified the EDM process, making it quicker and more accessible, and so boosting its popularity as a reliable high performance manufacturing method.

Even so, potential users were still being deterred by the difficulty of designing electrodes.

The availability of PS-Electrode means that this barrier has been removed, making the use of EDM more attractive to companies manufacturing tooling with high levels of detail". Request a free brochure from Delcam ...
