On 7th July 2005 Delcam will offer unlimited use of its PS-Exchange online CAD data translation service completely free of charge.

To overcome the issue of different time zones in different countries, the free offer will apply for the entire time that it is 7th July anywhere on the planet.

This effectively makes the free day 48 hours long.

The free service will cover all of the translation options offered by PS-Exchange.

These include the ability to read models from all major CAD systems, such as Catia, Pro/Engineer, Unigraphics, SDRC, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD and Rhino, and standard formats like Iges, Step, Parasolid and ACIS.

PS-Exchange output options include Catia V5, AutoCAD and Rhino, plus the Iges, Step and STL standards, as well as Delcam's DGK and DMT formats.

"For many years, Delcam has offered fast, accurate translation of all leading CAD formats and so reduced the pressure on toolmakers and other subcontractors to buy expensive additional software simply to be able to offer data compatibility to their customers", claimed Tim Hughes, Delcam's Development Director with responsibility for PS-Exchange.

"Even so, companies are still intimidated by the major CAD suppliers into buying extra systems that they neither want nor need in the hope that it will help them win contracts with major OEMs".

"We hope that this opportunity to use PS-Exchange free of charge will convince companies that our data translation service is both fast and reliable, and so can overcome any incompatibility problems they may have experienced with other software", added Hughes.

"We will be asking everyone that uses the free service to fill in a short survey on their use of the software".

"All users that complete the survey will be entered into a draw for a Victorinox SwissMemory USB stick".

Delcam launched PS-Exchange in 1999 when it was the first online translation service to use a pay-per-use voucher-based payment system, and also the first to use a standard charge regardless of the size of the file being translated.

PS-Exchange's online approach gives two immediate advantages over other translation services.

First, as the translation software is stored on the user's own computer, the system is completely secure, with no chance of sensitive information being intercepted or mailed to an incorrect address.

Secondly, this approach gives much faster results as only a short authorisation code is transferred over the web, not the complete CAD model.

Once the authorisation has been obtained, the translation itself should never take more than a few minutes for even the largest file.
