More than 100 journalists and industry representatives from nine countries attended a joint Asian technical summit hosted by CADCAM developer Delcam and metrology specialist Renishaw in Shanghai.
More than 100 journalists and industry representatives from nine countries attended a joint Asian technical summit hosted by CADCAM developer Delcam and metrology specialist Renishaw in Shanghai from 5th to 7th September.
As well as both being leading UK companies that have been successful in Asia, the two companies are also among the leading innovators in novel manufacturing techniques.
The event covered all aspects of the product development process and showed how Delcam and Renishaw can help companies improve efficiency at every stage from initial design through to manufacturing and inspection.
The latest methods were described to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce lead times, through the application of modern technology.
The programme also included visits to two of Delcam's largest customers in Shanghai, Lian Heng and Yanfeng Visteon, where the use of the company's software in the manufacture of press tools and moulds respectively was demonstrated.
Further demonstrations were undertaken at the Shanghai showroom of machine tool manufacturer Mikron.
High-speed, five-axis machining techniques programmed with Delcam's PowerMill were shown on a Mikron HMS 600 U, while Renishaw's new on-machine verification solution was demonstrated on a Mikron VCP 600 three-axis machine.
"Asian companies in general, and Chinese companies in particular, are realising that lower labour costs can only offer a competitive advantage in the short term", commented Renishaw Jean-Marc Meffre, Managing Director of Renishaw Hong Kong.
"They know that long-term competitiveness relies on introducing more of the advanced technology offered by companies like ourselves and Delcam".
"The partnership with Renishaw for this event has been very successful and has certainly helped to attract so many senior delegates from around Asia", added Delcam's Marketing Manager Peter Dickin.
