DED has introduced the Star TCP2000 card reader/writer and cards, which provide a low-cost, instantly changeable and updateable loyalty, membership or appointment card system

DED Ltd has recently introduced the Star TCP2000 card reader/writer and cards, which provide a low-cost, instantly changeable and updateable loyalty, membership or appointment card system for wide ranging applications This new device is able to print low cost but rewritable cards featuring a large display area with full graphics capability

The card reader/writer unit may be integrated into most existing POS systems, or combined with the MCD2000 intelligent keypad which slots neatly into place on top of the TCP2000 to act as a standalone unit for a wide variety of applications.

The TCP2000 cards have a life of 500 insertions and are unaffected by magnets.

Alphanumerics and graphics, including digital photographs, may be included on the cards.

A printable graphic area of 40 x 58mm with a resolution of 203dpi is available, and the card graphics are permanent until the cards are re-inserted into the TCP2000.

The underneath of the cards are magnetised and can be encoded in ISO format.

The surface replaces the more usually seen black magnetic stripe enabling over printing.

The card reader/writer uses thermal line printing and can process a card in just 5.4 seconds.

Measuring 143 x 121 x 309mm it operates in temperatures of between 5 to 35*C and has a reliability of 300,000 cycles.

A card cleaner and self test function is also included, as well as an RS232 external interface.

The MCD2000 numeric keypad offers an LCD display, a PCMCIA slot and three serial ports for connection to devices such as a receipt printer.

No additional power supply is required as this is taken from the TCP2000.

This new card system is ideal for any application where a loyalty system is in place, where customers wish to include logos, promotional images photographs etc, and can for instance, allow loyalty points to be updated and shown on the card for future reference, helping to motivate end users.

DED provides value added support for the TCP2000, with sales engineers on hand to offer advice and technical expertise 5 days a week.
