Stepper motor controller rides the PCIbus

A Deva Electronic Controls product story

The Deva 004 PCI stepper motor controller enables the position, speed and acceleration of stepper driven axes to be controlled from a PC compatible computer.

The Deva 004 PCI stepper motor controller enables the position, speed and acceleration of stepper driven axes to be controlled from a PC compatible computer.

Offering an extensive range of software features, the Deva 004 has multiple move queues for independent/parallel continuous motion processing, S-curve acceleration for smoother motions and fully configurable motions including linear, circular, helical and spherical types.

A closed loop controller with PID and velocity feed forward terms, maintains control of axis position by continually monitoring motor position and updating motor speed.

Motor speed is set via a 16bit speed register and motor position is derived from a 24bit position register.

Alternatively, axis position feedback can be taken from external encoders using an additional Deva 001 encoder card.

Hardware features include a single 32bit expansion slot to ensure fast read/write access cycles, 16 optoisolated digital inputs allowing the sensing of switches and sensors around a system such as emergency stop and overtravel switches and 16 optoisolated outputs including four-axis enable outputs giving the ability to control other devices.

OEMs involved with software development will benefit from the comprehensive software support library compatible with Windows 98/2000/Me/XP, Microsoft Visual B and Visual C operating systems.

Axis configuration and jogging utilities provide for easy machine setup.
