Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
Visitors will be able to learn about the latest research projects being carried out by DMU's Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering, the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development and the Emerging Technologies Research Centre.
Business people will be able to attend presentations on a variety of topics, from robots in the Centre for Computational Intelligence to the innovative work of the Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing group.
Delegates at the open day will include: Gordon Boot, Product Engineering Manager, Siemens Enterprise Communications; Andrew Granger, President, Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce; Kevin Keeler, Research and Development Manager, Wicks and Wilson; Mo Bham, Managing Director, Imperial International; Bill Mortel, Engineering and Technology Director, Trelleborg Industrial AVS; and Nigel Heath, Technical Specialist, Jaguar/Land Rover.

The event runs from 9.45AM to 3.45PM and includes lunch with an address by Professor Adrian Hopgood, Dean of the Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering.
Professor Philip Moore, Head of Research and Commercial Development for the Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering, said: "Collaboration with industrial and commercial partners plays an increasingly important role in research with almost all our research projects being collaborative".
"This event is an invaluable opportunity for businesses and public sector organisations to learn about the University's computing, engineering and technology research expertise".
Professor Adrian Hopgood, Dean of the Faculty, added: "We are very pleased to be opening the faculty's doors to business representatives to allow them to find out more about some of the leading-edge work carried out here".
"There are many fascinating demonstrations, tours and presentations taking place on the day that visitors should find both interesting and informative".
DMU has a strong track record in working with businesses, enabling them to benefit from its expertise.
DMU's five faculties have successful partnerships with companies in areas as diverse as manufacturing, electronics, software engineering, banking, fashion, journalism and retail.
In November 2006, the University launched its New Product Development Centre, which aims to help improve the performance of small and medium sized businesses across Leicestershire by offering free design advice and assistance.
