A series of seminars designed to offer insight into new British standards on lightning and surge protection is being organised by equipment manufacturer Dehn UK during June and July.

The seminars will cover the new BS EN62305 standard, which is being introduced during 2006 to supersede the earlier BS6651 standard, and imposes a new set of requirements on architects, specifiers and installers.

A key difference in the two standards is that BS EN62305 incorporates surge protection within the main text rather than as an appendix.

In particular, the new standard calls for a risk assessment calculation to be carried out which will determine if surge protection is necessary, and what class/type of surge protection device (SPD) is to be installed.

The seminars will be held during June and July at centres in the UK and Ireland, including Dublin, London, Bristol and Birmingham.

Each one-day event will include three two-hour seminars at 0900, 1200 and 1500.
