Reliable harsh environment cable sealed connectors

A Deutsch product story

Deutsch has used one of its quarter turn positive click lock composite connectors with an over-mould to give complete cable sealing combined with visual and tactile indication of correct location

Harsh environment electrical cable seals that are exposed to moisture dust and heat must be reliable in service.

Care must be taken to ensure the cable gland nut is not mis-threaded and is fully located.

If a cable is damaged, moisture can travel through the inside of the cable and into equipment.

The results can be failed electrical connection, risk of moisture and dust ingress, expensive failure of equipment and process down time.

When looking for a solution, Deutsch used one of its quarter turn positive click lock composite connectors with an over-mould, designed to give complete cable sealing combined with visual and tactile indication of correct location.

Compact over-moulding solutions are tamperproof, can be tailored to suit customer requirements, and provide an aesthetically pleasing finish and consistent assembly quality.

This capability uses the existing Deutsch range of robust inline and flange mounted composite circular Industrial Micro Connectors (IMC).

Thus, maintaining economy and IP67 environmental sealing requirements.

IMC Series composite connectors are constructed from high temperature resistant Ultem and exceed UL94 Class V-O flammability requirements.

The range is manufactured in two shell sizes and 7 contact configurations.

Main features include gold plated contacts and PCB configurations, a bayonet (type) lock coupling mechanism, and an operating temperature of between -55C to +175C.
