DeviceNet adopted as IEC fieldbus

Since its introduction a few years ago, Devicenet has grown rapidly in the UK and is now the leading Controller Area Network (CAN) based system.
"The standard (IEC 62026) opens new markets for DeviceNet and confirms the choice of global companies that are already experiencing the benefits and advantages of the technology." DeviceNet received strong support from IEC members - including the world's major trading countries and a number of nations with rapidly growing industrial sectors.
The adoption of DeviceNet as a worldwide standard is more good news for the ODVA's European DeviceNet Technical Support Centre based at the University of Warwick.
It follows ratification in March of this year of DeviceNet as a European standard when the CENELEC Technical Board ratified EN 50325 -1 (General) and EN 50325 - 2 (DeviceNet).
"DeviceNet is number one in North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia," said Richard McLaughlin, chairman of DeviceNet UK.
"It is fitting that the most popular industrial fieldbus around the world is now recognised as an international standard." The ODVA was formed in April 1995 to support worldwide growth of the DeviceNet specification by assisting vendors, distributors and end users through the provision of tools, training, compliance testing and marketing activities.
It has offices in Europe, North America and Australia and affiliates in Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
