The TotalControl2 is a compact 586 type processor single board computer for embedded applications.

The TotalControl2 is a compact 586 type processor single board computer (SBC) for embedded applications Typical uses include instrumentation, data logging and telemetry equipment, vending machines, operator interfaces and information displays

The TotalControl2 incorporates Dexdyne's innovative PanelWiz technology, which greatly simplifies the connection of I/O to the board.

The TotalControl2 is a highly compact board, with a 145 x 100mm footprint similar to that of a 3.5in hard disk drive.

Its small size, coupled with its low power consumption (less than 4W at 133MHz), makes it particularly suitable for portable and other battery powered applications.

Using the STPC/Atlas 586 processor (133MHz) it will run Linux, DOS, or Windows CE type operating systems.

The board runs from a single 5V power supply.

The TotalControl2 is a highly versatile controller, with extensive I/O including five USB ports, four serial ports, IRDA, and 10/100 Ethernet.

It will support VGA CRT and LCD displays up to 1280 x 1024 resolution, It also includes a four- or eight-wire touch-screen interface.

Memory support includes IDE interface and Compact Flash; its four memory sites will accommodate up to 128Mbyte of surface mount SDRAM for ruggedness.

To simplify the connection of I/O to the board, the TotalControl2 incorporates Dexdyne's new PanelWiz system.

This brings all I/O to one edge of the board, using a secondary board (that can be readily customised if required), thereby reducing the complexity of the cabling, and simplifying the enclosure design.

Bharat Gupta of Dexdyne said: "The TotalControl2 is the latest in our line of "Total" embedded controller boards, which has proved a remarkably successful range over the past few years.

We continue to outperform similar products coming in from the Far East because of the level of functionality, innovative design and local support.

Our novel PanelWiz system should further reduce our clients' design and manufacturing costs, by simplifying the way that I/O is connected to the controller and made available to the outside world in a packaged system".

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the TotalControl2 board is now in production.

Evaluation systems start at GBP 495; volume prices on application.
