Compact embedded controller has easy-access I/O
The TotalControl2 is a compact 586 type processor single board computer for embedded applications.
The result is a versatile module for OEMs and system integrators who need an off-the-shelf user interface.
Likely applications include industrial control, transportation projects, data logging and HMI systems.
Packaged in a rugged polyamide enclosure, NetPanel incorporates a 10.4in TFT LCD and an analogue touch screen.
The LCD screen can be shipped with the choice of transflective display for use in high ambient light conditions.
The embedded controller has P100 type performance and comes with a minimum of 64Mbyte of soldered-on SMD SDRAM.
Designed specifically for portable and mobile applications, it consumes around 20W, does not require a fan and is available in two versions, one for DC power input (9-36V) and the other for mains power.
NetPanel's I/O includes up to four USB ports, up to four serial RS232/RS485 ports, an iRDA port, and 10/100 Ethernet port.
NetPanel has provision for the option to support wireless networking using an 802.11b network adapter.
The system also has a PC104 expansion connector for adding an application specific card.
The dimensions of the standard enclosure are 317 x 287 x 75mm.
A 2.5in HDD can also be fitted into the unit for applications such as data logging.
Initially NetPanel is offered with a choice of operating system (WinCE 4.1 net, Linux or DOS) running from a removable solid-state disk (CompactFlash).
Bharat Gupta of Dexdyne said "The NetPanel is a highly cost effective solution for OEMs and system integrators who need a user interface for their product or system.
NetPanel is a completely self-contained unit designed to minimise development time - simply connect up the power, download your software, and you are away.
NetPanel's low power requirement and rugged construction make it particularly suitable for portable or mobile applications".
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the NetPanel is now in production.
Evaluation systems cost GBP 1450, with volume prices available on application.
