Acquisition solution speeds offshore surveys
Digi International has been chosen by Quality Positioning Systems (QPS), to create a solution that connects a large number of serial devices with very high data flows to a single PC.
Potential problem-solving applications of this technology include the ability to send instructions to a serial device from more than one PC on the network and the ability to reprogram devices from alternate masters either on or off site.
The multimaster facility also allows data querying of working serial devices, such as PLCs, without interfering with routine operations.
An equally powerful feature of the Digi One IA RealPort is the new multiprotocol capability, which allows device and host to connect using protocols such as Modbus, DF1, Compoway /F, Hostlink, FINS, EtherNet/IP, Modbus/TCP, and Allen-Bradley Ethernet.
It can also be configured for user-defined protocols, making it uniquely adaptable and virtually future-proof.
These two highly innovative and liberating features have been specifically developed by Digi to ease the path for Ethernet network integration in industrial automation environments.
The multimaster and multiprotocol capabilities of the Digi One IA RealPort can be used simultaneously, so that one host can communicate with the device using one protocol while a second master connects using a different protocol.
The Digi One IA RealPort is designed for robust and reliable operation in industrial operating conditions.
It also offers easy web-based configuration and complete serial and Modbus MIBs for easy management through SNMP.
It incorporates a switchable EIA232/422/485 serial interface in addition to a 10/100BaseT network port.
RealPort COM redirection software also allows serial devices to communicate with any host on the Ethernet network as though via a COM port.
The Digi One IA RealPort accommodates the broad spectrum of power requirements used in industrial automation environments by offering voltage from 9 to 30V as well as support for the new 802.3af powered Ethernet standard.
