Dr Esther Hayes, cofounder and Commercial Director of Digital Steps, has been elected as a Fellow of the IMechE in recognition of her distinguished career in engineering.

Dr Esther Hayes, cofounder and Commercial Director of software development company Digital Steps has been elected as a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in recognition of her distinguished career in engineering This represents an outstanding achievement, particularly given the fact that of some 80,000 members worldwide only 6000 are fellows, and Dr Hayes is one of only 37 women who have been accorded this honour

Dr Hayes' career, spanning 22 years to date, has seen her successfully manage and implement a number of large and complex projects for key industry names.

As Director of Business Development within Dresser Kellogg Energy Services in 1997, she was responsible for developing speculative prospects for major engineering and construction projects within the oil and gas industry.

When Halliburton merged with Dresser in 1998 to become the largest oil and gas services group worldwide, Dr Hayes once again played a key role in developing sales strategy and management processes for BRES' core business, as well as leading the software and technology element of a major internal research and development project aimed at radically changing the way Halliburton performed its business.

In 2000 Dr Hayes saw a new opportunity to leverage her engineering and management background, and partnered with Dr Peter Black in the to the founding of Digital Steps, a revolutionary new software company.

At Digital Steps, Dr Hayes now manages high-profile operations, delivering enterprise systems designed to accommodate business change and create value for key corporate clients.

Digital Steps' clients include major oil and gas companies, financial institutions, membership management organisations, and professional registration bodies.

IMechE Chief Executive, Sir Michael Moore, commented: "It is important for the engineering industry, and for those employed in the profession, that we have such role models".
