Dolch describes the SafeTTouch 4X as the ultimate touch screen display to withstand the extreme conditions faced by the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries Ordinary industrial displays are seldom capable of withstanding the harsh conditions required for high-speed processing lines

However, the specialist SafeTTouch 4X has an operating temperature range of 0 to 40C, a non-operating temperature range of -25 to +60C, and is unaffected by extreme humidity.

The unit is fully sealed to IP66 and the casing and seals are able to withstand high-pressure chemical cleaning sprays, solvents, water, grease and other liquids.

The SafeTTouch 4X display is housed in a 304-grade stainless steel enclosure and offers 15in (XGA) and 18in (SXGA) active matrix colour TFT LCD screens.

The displays are compatible with the Dolch RayFire digital fibre-optic communications system that allows the display to be sited far from the host computer.

Forced air circulation ensures that the screen electronics are maintained at the optimum temperature, with no risk of condensation forming, despite the fully sealed housing.

Careful design of the enclosure has ensured that there are no crevices or other 'bug traps', not even around the screen bezel where other designs sometimes give cause for concern.

Mounting options include a panel and pedestal configurations.

Conventional touch screens can suffer and degrade in industrial environments, whereas Dolch uses enhanced infra-red technology that is immune to surface damage such as chips or scratches.

Moreover, the versatile touch screen can be operated by users wearing gloves or holding a stylus, and the enhanced infra-red technology maintains its calibration over time, never drifting or losing sensitivity.

The touch screen technology does not use overlays, so the image clarity from the bright, sharp, high-resolution active matrix colour TFT LCD screen is always 100%.

While the display is designed and built to withstand harsh environments, some users will wish to position the host computer in a climate-controlled room.

The SafeTTouch 4X incorporates a facility for using the Dolch RayFire digital fibre-optic link, which allows the display to be mounted remotely from the host computer - up to 16km in extreme cases - with the added benefit of hot-swap capability.
