Dolphin is a new rugged 8.4in LCD launched by Dolch Computer Systems following the earlier success of the larger Shark and Orca displays At 8.4in, Dolphin is set to find a place on platforms where space is at a premium, but compactness must not be at the cost of durability

Indeed, the new display is intended to function as an addon and replenishment for Dolch's new vehicle/onboard PC, the VersaPAC.

Thus, despite the slim elegance of Dolphin, its light weight of little more than 1kg and small dimensions, the specification is fully compliant with MIL-STD-810F.

In practice this means that with a 30g-shock specification Dolphin will survive a drop from a height of 1m onto concrete, while its temperature and humidity limits are equally impressive.

In operation, the new display is unfazed by temperatures in the -10 to +50C range, while when not in operation it will be unaffected by even more extremes.

Similarly, in a relative humidity of 10 to 95%, the Dolphin will suffer considerably less stress that its operator.

Affording protection up to IP65 class, Dolphin is available in VGA and DVI versions, and for some customers the fact that it can be supplied with S-video input will be considered a "must" for onboard applications.

As a logical partner for the VersaPAC mobile rugged micro PC, Dolphin will become widely used in both military vehicles and a wide variety of other heavy-duty industrial transport and off-road vehicles.

Dolch Computer Systems has a record of supplying ruggedised LCDs for use in tough environments, having been selected by several countries to meet naval and army needs, even operating successfully in the stressful environment of the Mir space station.
