Dolch Computer Systems has upgraded its market-leading NotePAC ruggedised notebook computer.

Dolch Computer Systems has upgraded its market-leading NotePAC ruggedised notebook computer.

The latest model boasts a 1.6MHz Intel Pentium M processor with Centrino mobile technology, up to 1Gbyte of DRAM and a 12.1 or 14.1in TFT screen.

Renowned for its rugged construction and suitability for use in hostile environments, the NotePAC features a robust, lightweight magnesium alloy case, a hard disc drive mounted in a shock-absorbing sealed cartridge, and the whole computer is sealed to IP54 - including the rubberised keyboard and integral pointing device.

Furthermore, the operating temperature range for the new model of NotePAC has been extended to 0 to 55C.

A standard PCMCIA CardBus slot permits two Type II or one Type III card to be used, and a further unusual feature of the NotePAC is the expansion module that allows two three-quarter-size PCI or ISA cards to be installed.

This expansion facility, coupled with the numerous built-in communications interfaces, makes the NotePAC the most versatile rugged portable computers on the market.

Customers also have a broad choice of options, enabling them to specify the NotePAC to match their particular application.

For example, the periphery bay can house a removable CD-ROM drive, a floppy drive or a DVD/CD-RW drive.

Although battery life is sufficient for most uses, an auxiliary battery can be installed to give an extended operating time.

To ensure suitability for applications beyond the usual office-type tasks, the NotePAC benefits from 3D audio and AGP 4X for enhanced-performance 3D graphics.

Video capabilities include a dual-view function (dual task display) and DirectX 8.1.
