Crabtree and Hawke scoop user awards

A DLoG (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 27, 2005

DLoG (UK) has named the winners of its "Best implementation of 2004" and "Best user case study of 2004" awards.

Two customer awards, denoting the "Best implementation of 2004" and the "Best user case study of 2004" were recently presented by industrial networking and shop floor data solutions specialist DLoG (UK).

The award for "Best implementation of 2004" went to Crabtree of Gateshead for its newly installed DLoG shop floor data collection and reporting system.

The company, which produces machinery for printing single- or multicoloured graphics on to containers such as paint cans, uses DLoG-installed DNeT data collection terminals to gather data on all its productive and nonproductive activities.

Information collected by the DLoG system is passed by a Prisma Report Generator to a Microsoft SQL Server database and, from there, anyone in the company with the correct access rights can view the status of jobs via the company's intranet.

"The implementation was overseen by Davyd Chaney, Crabtree's IT Manager", reports DLoG's Managing Director, John Davis.

"What particularly impressed us was the way that Davyd and his team made the effort to fully understand the capabilities of DLoG's Prisma data reporting system".

"This played an important role in them maximising their benefit and return on investment".

In parallel, DLoG's "Best case study of 2004" award went to Hawke International, a leading producer of electrical cable connectors, termination and barrier products for use in hazardous locations and hostile environments.

This award recognised the additional improvements in efficiency and productivity that a DLoG system can bring to a company if it is implemented effectively.

"No system will ever achieve its full potential without the customer's commitment to ensuring publication of the information that's collected - and that appropriate discussion forums are also put in place", says Davis.

"This is the approach adopted at Hawke International".

"It not only allows manufacturing problems and weaknesses to be identified, but also creates the right environment for solutions to be found and implemented".

"The company has achieved significant productivity improvements over the past 12 months".

"But only because of the united effort made by Hawke's shopfloor operators and Project Manager, Keith Wright in pursuit of what has proved to be an excellent return on investment".
