Surrey debut for hand-held PC
Hand-held PC to make UK show debut at the Logistics Link Exhibition, which takes place at Thorpe Parke in Surrey from 7th to 8th February.
DLog's recently-announced XMDA hand-held PC will be showcased for the first time in the UK as part of the company's display of industrial terminals and PCs on stand 57 at the Logistics Link Exhibition, which takes place at Thorpe Parke in Surrey from 7th to 8th February Equipped with an 18cm TFT touchscreen display and measuring 256 x 131 x 40mm, the XMDA is suited to warehousing and logistics sector applications
It exceeds IP65 protection standards and is certified to withstand a 1.2m drop test.
It is also equipped with tough, shock absorbing end caps for extra durability.
The XMDA uses flexible, multi-functional hardware, which is expandable to include add-on features such as WLAN, GPS, GSM, pick by voice, RFID, Bluetooth, imagers, cameras and the like.
It incorporates integrated ports for headsets, speakers and scanners, and is equipped with an Intel PXA 270 520MHz CPU loaded with Microsoft Windows CE 5.0.
Other hardware on show on the DLog stand will include the company's DNet X7 and MPC5 terminals for mobile computing applications.
Measuring 227 x 158 x 83 mm, the DNet X7 incorporates an Intel PXA270 processor - the XScale chip - running at up to 520MHz.
It also has an 18cm colour TFT touchscreen display with portrait and landscape format options, WLAN and GSM connectivity, plus two RS232 serial ports and two USB ports.
The terminal is ruggedly constructed and provides shock and vibration resilience.
It meets IP54 and IP65 protection standards and accommodates operating temperatures down to -30C.
Powered by a 24 or 48V DC supply, the unit supports Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 and is supplied with 64Mbyte SDRAM and up to 512Mbyte of disk space.
The firm's MPC5 mobile IPC is also available with an optional 733MHz Pentium 3 processor and up to 512Mbit RAM as standard.
It measures 229 x 280 x 83mm and can be mounted on fork lift trucks, straddle carriers and in freight vehicle cabs.
The fully-functional unit provides touchscreen operation and can be supplied with 26.4cm VGA or SVGA or 31cm SVGA colour high contrast screens, suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
A compact, membrane keyboard mounted into the screen surround is a further option to provide instant access to 25 of the most commonly used keys.
The MPC5 supports various standard barcode scanners and pens.
A Cardbus card slot at the top of the unit's housing enables wireless cards - with or without integrated antennae - to be inserted for immediate WLAN use.
The latest model is also supplied with external ports for mobile use, including two USB 1.1, two com RS232 and a standard plug-in connector for PS/2 keyboard or mouse.
All external ports are at the base of the unit.
A standard Ethernet interface is available for non-wireless connectivity applications.
DLog has also introduced a panel mounted version of the MPC5, which can be integrated into control cabinets and operating consoles.
This model has a 31cm LCD touchscreen display and provides IP65 protection.
The panel mount version is housed in an aluminium casing to improve thermal performance without the need for an in-built fan.
Units are also offered with an optional heater unit for operation in sub-zero conditions.
All models incorporate electrically isolated power packs that accept 12, 24 or 48V DC inputs without an external converter.
They also bridge power drops of up to 5V for at least 20s as standard, and can be supplied with a fully configurable, auto switch-off facility.
