Local motor control made easy
Hard on the heels of the launch of the Decentral VLT FCD 300 variable-speed drive, Danfoss has released a matching Decentral motor switch DMS 300, for cage motors up to 3kW.
Hard on the heels of the launch of the Decentral VLT FCD 300 variable-speed drive, Danfoss has released a matching Decentral motor switch DMS 300, for cage motors up to 3kW This new and innovative fixed speed motor controller extends the Danfoss Decentral range of remotely mounted drive products, giving Danfoss a full drive-motor-gear profile for the food and beverage and materials handling markets, especially where hygiene considerations dictate regular hosing down of the production lines

New name comes to the fore in UK drives market
Following the acquisition of Bauer by Danfoss, the new Danfoss Motion Controls organisation will offer the market a co-ordinated range of drives and geared motor units
Connection technology cuts motor setup time
From April 2002, all Danfoss Bauer geared motor units up to 2.2kW will be supplied fitted with innovative Cage Clamp connection technology which reduces connection time and costs by up to 75%.
The new DMS 300, in a high durability IP66 enclosure similar to but smaller than its sibling FCD 300, offers full fixed speed motor control functions including soft start, reversing, mechanical brake control, thermistor and electronic thermal control via an integrated AS-interface.
Profibus is also available as an option and DeviceNet is planned for the future.
The unique family feature linking the Decentral units is their two-part construction.
The base section is mounted adjacent to the motor or onto the motor terminal box.
The no-repair encapsulated electronics top section of the DMS simply plugs into the base section.
This unique concept also means the DMS is service friendly, requiring minimal spares holding and providing a fast efficient 'plug and play' replacement of the electronics section for minimal downtime.
The two-part concept is highly flexible and allows Danfoss to offer 'standard variant versions' to larger OEMs and volume buyers, whereby industry specific models can be produced to meet special needs for features like plug-in sensor connectors and pluggable motor connections.
Five different cost and performance models are offered initially, from a simple mono-directional S version with thermistor control, through to the full functionality extended E version with fieldbus control.
Space provision is made on the base units for an isolating switch for full galvanic isolation of the motor without the need for a separate enclosure.
The Decentral motor control concept is becoming very popular with major manufacturers across Europe because of the simplicity of installation and the savings which accrue from locating the controllers on the production equipment rather than in a distant control cabinet.
For example, BMW has already taken over 450 DMS units for a project in Germany.
Ends.
