Pump maker signs exclusive drive deal
Pump maker Armstrong Holden Brooke Pullen has signed an agreement with Danfoss for the exclusive worldwide supply of drives with sensorless control software for circulating pumps.
Pump maker Armstrong Holden Brooke Pullen (AHBP) has signed an agreement with Danfoss for the exclusive worldwide supply of drives with sensorless control software for circulating pumps The control software was initially developed in conjunction with Holden Brooke Pullen for its variable speed IVS Sensorless pump range which uses a version of the Danfoss FCM motor mounted drive up to 7.5kW

Following the acquisition of Bauer by Danfoss, the new Danfoss Motion Controls organisation will offer the market a co-ordinated range of drives and geared motor units
Connection technology cuts motor setup time
From April 2002, all Danfoss Bauer geared motor units up to 2.2kW will be supplied fitted with innovative Cage Clamp connection technology which reduces connection time and costs by up to 75%.
The sensorless inverter-driven pump eliminates the need for system pressure feedback from a pressure sensor, which, if mounted in the wrong place, would prove ineffective.
All the inverter drive needs is knowledge of the pump head/flow characteristics, and with these preloaded into the drive software, accurate pressure and flow control is achieved.
The patented software even compensates for changes in motor temperature and associated power losses.
More recently, the software development was extended to the higher power VLT6000 series to suit pump ratings up to 90kW.
Winners of the H and V News award for Industrial/Commercial Heating Product of 2002, the IVS technology was described by the judges at the time as "simple but brilliant" and "truly innovative".
The benefits of this new technology are substantial.
The variable speed function is inherently more efficient than fixed speed pumps, initial capital and installation costs are reduced through the elimination of the pressure sensor and the BMS interface for remote control and monitoring is greatly simplified.
The exclusive deal follows the acquisition of Holden Brooke Pullen by Armstrong Pumps in early 2004 which created Armstrong Holden Brooke Pullen.
Armstrong is a leading global supplier of quality HVAC and fluid flow equipment for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
The addition of the Danfoss sensorless technology adds an important capability to the Armstrong offering.
The Danfoss sensorless technology will be sold exclusively worldwide by Armstrong for use with both Armstrong and Armstrong Holden Brooke Pullen branded products.
