Oil and gas specialist Destec Engineering has won a GBP 750,000 contract to supply its GSB single-bolt clamps to ABB Offshore Systems for use in the Snohvit liquefied natural gas project.

Oil and gas specialist Destec Engineering has won a GBP 750,000 contract to supply its GSB single bolt clamps to ABB Offshore Systems for use in the Snohvit liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the Barents Sea off northern Norway.

Destec will supply the custom-manufactured clamps in 4 and 10in single-bore and 10 and 12in multibore sizes which will be used as part of the new subsea installation at Snohvit to pipe LNG ashore.

Destec's single-bolt clamps will be used for the multibore module and umbilical connections for the Snohvit template-manifold system.

Remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) will make up the connection without the need for diver involvement.

Delivery of the contract will commence in May 2003.

Destec's multibore single bolt clamps reduce the number of connections that need to be made in a pipe template-manifold by joining several pipes or tubes at one point using a single clamp.

This reduces the overall weight of the installation, the time taken for its assembly and the cost.

"This is a very important contract for us", said Alistair Chadwick, Sales and Marketing Manger at Destec Engineering.

"Our single-bolt clamps provide many benefits and we are very pleased to be involved in this high profile installation".

The single-bolt connectors can be manufactured in sizes from 2 to 40in and in a range of materials and coatings to suit particular environments.

They can be designed to meet ASME and other pressure vessel requirements for quick release connectors.
