The Destec G-Range clamp connector is suitable for a wide range of pipe networks and used extensively in production manifold, flow line and valve installations.

Destec Engineering has completed a circa GBP 500,000 contract to supply its G-Range clamp connectors for topside production facilities on Shell UK's Starling over Shearwater project in the Central North Sea.

Destec has already supplied over 250 hubs to the project; in hub sizes from 75 to 350mm, in carbon steel with Inconel 625 lining, Super Duplex and Duplex materials, for a wide range of applications.

These include pipes, fittings, valves, and various other high-pressure pipe system components, working up to pressures of 260bar.

The decision to use Destec connectors was based on a number of factors, but particularly the weight saving, ease-of-installation and fabrication benefits of a product that uses only four bolts for assembly and requires no bolt alignment, plus Destec's track record on other Shell North Sea installations.

Shearwater Topside Project Manager, Lawson Petrie, comments: "We were impressed with Destec's pro-active management, in meeting and in most cases bettering, its schedule requirements - given that this was a schedule-driven project that had to meet weather and shutdown window criteria".

"Destec's support, both technically and in reduced manufacturing lead times, was noted and greatly appreciated by Shell engineers on the project".

The type approved and fire tested Destec G-Range clamp connector is suitable for a wide range of pipe networks and used extensively in production manifold, flow line and valve installations.

Supplied with an all-metal seal ring as standard, the connector is designed for adverse conditions of pressure, temperature and thermal shock, while maintaining joint integrity at all times.

The product is manufactured in carbon, stainless, alloy and duplex steels with compatible clamp and seal ring materials.

Destec Sales and Marketing Manager, Alistair Chadwick says: "The Destec connector offers many advantages; with savings in weight, space and fabrication time, which are particularly valuable commodities on topside developments such as Starling over Shearwater".

"Complementing the high-quality of the Destec products, our contract management team has worked hard to ensure Shell's expectations were met and indeed exceeded".

He adds: "Destec order books are at record levels and our business continues to perform strongly, as evidenced by the award and delivery of this project".
