The components used in test systems for aircraft hydraulics systems must be capable of the highest possible performance.

Today's stringent safety rules mean that aircraft components must be tested to quality and reliability levels in excess of probably any other industry It naturally follows that the equipment designed to test these components must be built to match the quality and reliability of the aircraft systems themselves

Hydraulic oil is the lifeblood of modern aircraft, being used to accurately control the precise movements required at lifting flaps and rudders, down to reliably setting and retracting the sophisticated landing gear.

All these functions are powered by special hydraulic actuators and valves which have to repeatedly perform day in, day out.

Manufacturers of these items have to carry out static and dynamic testing on specialist designed control stands, which simulate all in-flight conditions.

DGB Hydraulic Services has over 25 years experience in designing and building such systems, which run on the low-viscosity aviation phosphate-ester fire resistant fluids (Skydrol 500B4 and Skydrol LD4).

Dave Bell, Managing Director of DGB Hydraulics says: "The heart of our systems revolve around a Denison Hydraulics variable flow pump, which has allowed us to build first class test systems, where our customer can be confident of accurate and repeatable test cycling".

He is keen to point out that other features of his company's test stands are a full stainless steel fabrication, with all pipes, hoses and valves carefully selected to meet aviation specifications.

The filtration system performs to NAS 6 or better, and offers full offline filtering and cooling.

Coupled to this is a full diagnostic warning system to cover temperature, oil levels, and blocked filters.

Bell goes on to explain that: "The design of the Denison pump not only copes with the difficulty of running on the Skydrol fluid, but gives us the opportunity to build in a soft-start system.

In fact, nearly all the systems we have supplied with these quality products are still running today".
