The extended life of Molykote brand multipurpose oils is the result of a proprietary manufacturing technique and formulation that produces ultra-high-purity lubricants "engineered" to meet specific performance requirements.
They offer reduced overall maintenance costs vs.
conventional mineral-oils as a result of savings from longer oil-drain intervals and extended equipment life due to improved wear and emulsion resistance.
The resistance to emulsification virtually eliminates problems associated with high-humidity environments where conventional solvent-refined lubricants tend to bond to water, which causes oil breakdown and a build up of varnish, sludge and/or deposits.
Molykote oils are particularly suited for lubrication and protection of a wide range of moving components in industrial systems, particularly in humid climates and wet processing environments such as the food and beverage and pulp and paper industries.
The superior performance of Molykote mineral oils is due to a proprietary manufacturing process that formulates the oils by reconstructing them at the molecular level without the use of solvents.
In doing so, it eliminates additional problems associated with conventional solvent-refined mineral oils, which typically retain contaminants from the crude-oil source that can produce acid in the formulation and cause premature aging of the oil.
The technology used to create Molykote multipurpose oils also results in high-purity fluids that are inherently "additive responsive", and so oil life and performance can be extended using lower levels of additives.
Lower additive levels translate into lower acid properties and less emulsification through self-induced chemical breakdown.
Molykote multipurpose oils are available in a range of viscosity grades, from 32 to 100 ISO, and with pour points down to -32C.
Use of the products requires no special processes to install - the user simply replaces the old fluids with the Molykote grade.
Further, Molykote FG food-grade multipurpose oils are formulated in accordance with FDA Regulation 21 CFR 178.3570 for food-grade lubricants with incidental food contact, and are Kosher approved for critical applications.
Molykote multipurpose oils contain a highly effective, proprietary antioxidant, plus antiwear ingredients and a unique aging marker that can provide precise information about the condition of the oil through sample analysis.
The multipurpose oils are part of the Molykote Total Industrial Lubrication Consolidation Programme from Dow Corning.
This programme, introduced early in 2002 by Dow Corning, offers a comprehensive package of lubricants and related services designed to help customers reduce overall maintenance costs, extend equipment life, and simplify the purchasing process by consolidating all lubrication-related activities with one supplier.
The programme features the introduction of 42 new industrial fluids that are marketed under the Molykote brand name; an oil-analysis service; and lubrication-management software, which together complement the company's traditional line of Dow Corning brand industrial lubricants and related services that meet virtually every plant lubrication need.
In addition to multipurpose oils, the company now offers the most complete selection of lubricants available from a single supplier, including synthetic and/or ultra-high-purity mineral-oil fluids for hydraulic systems, compressor and vacuum pumps, gear boxes and chain oils, as well as specialty lubricant compounds, greases, pastes, anti-friction coatings, and dispersions.
A typical industrial customer who consolidates with this product and service package may expect to achieve six categories of benefits, including: better return on capital investment through longer machine life; improved overall productivity through extended fill intervals; streamlined inventory through elimination of items with similar properties; better preventive maintenance through integrated oil analysis; better equipment performance through selection and quality of lubricant; and more effective maintenance management through better informed decision-making.
This package of Dow Corning and Molykote lubricants and services is being implemented as a comprehensive lubricant consolidation programme through Dow Corning's channel partners, with complete coverage throughout Europe, Middle East and South Africa.
