A set of seven Dresser EFC actuators has been specified for valve actuation on a special fully-automated test rig, built for Larox OYJ by Scheibler Filters Ltd of Retford, Nottinghamshire, for evaluating large-scale filtering problems, mainly in the mining and chemical industries The research rig consists of a 30m2 Larox liquid polishing filter mounted, with all ancillary equipment, in a 20ft container

The equipment includes pumps, pipework, (Dresser EFC-actuated) valves, a PLC system with interactive monitor, flowmeter, liquid storage tanks, filter pre-coat dosing equipment and compressed air blower for cleaning.

Designed as a research tool to evaluate fluids filtering across a wide temperature and pH range, there is a central requirement to resist corrosion both internally and externally.

The rig's vessels and pumps are 316L stainless steel with other equipment variously in polypropylene, PVC, PVDF, PTFE, special alloys and titanium.

The Dresser EFC actuators, which are made from glass-filled epoxy resin, are resistant to most chemicals, including acid and alkalis.

They are part of an extensive range of composite actuators and valves marketed by Dresser Flow Control.

The Larox OYJ test rig has been widely used in the USA.
