Membrane system is foundation for growth

A DRC Polymer Products product story

DRC Polymers has unveiled plans to grow its projects division by 100% in the next 12 months, thanks to the runaway success of its intelligent membrane system.

A Cambridge (UK) firm specialising in waterproofing products for the construction industry has unveiled plans to grow its projects division by 100% in the next 12 months, thanks to the runaway success of its intelligent membrane system.

DRC Polymers launched Hylam IQ, an intelligent membrane that pinpoints leaks, in 2004.

The waterproofing system has already been installed at two United Utilities-owned reservoirs in Cheshire and Cumbria and work is close to completion at Huntington water treatment works, near Chester.

The company now expects the system, which took three years to develop, to boost turnover in its projects division from GBP 2million to GBP 4 million within 12 months.

Hylam IQ contains a network of sensors to pinpoint minute leaks to within 3m2 and is set to save the water industry millions of pounds.

Unlike liquid waterproofing, Hylam IQ requires very little surface preparation and can be applied directly to concrete substrates - vertically and horizontally - and in any weather conditions.

Ken Bray, Managing Director of DRC Polymers, said: "Getting the system endorsed by repeat orders from an industry heavyweight like United Utilities is a great boost for the business".

"The reaction to the new system has been very positive indeed".

"By detecting leaks electronically, Hylam IQ eradicates the need for manual service checks and the costly disruption they create".

"With thousands of service reservoirs in the UK, the potential customer base for Hylam IQ is phenomenal".

"This is a very exciting time for the team which has worked very hard to get to this stage".
