A novel 3D scanner is claimed to make converting an object into a digital model almost as easy as photocopying.

A novel 3D scanner is claimed to make converting an object into a digital model almost as easy as photocopying.

Whether it is an existing part or a prototype, the Copymate 3D scanner from Datron is extremely fast, accurate, easy to use and cost effective.

With the Copymate, a 20 x 22 x 8cm object can be scanned in 27min to an accuracy of 0.02cm.

Surface generation takes just 53s, while the tool path can be generated in 4.5min.

Once scanned, the data are automatically converted into a computerised model that, prior to machining the finished item, can easily be edited and customised for production.

The Copymate can be connected to any machine and is easy to install.

It has a wizard to guide the user through the process of scanning, creating a tool path and sending the job to the milling machine.

This results in lower operating costs.

For further image manipulation before milling, Graphitech's Cimagrafi software can be used.

This is an art-based CAD/CAM package that is powerful and intuitive.

Its modularity enables it to be tailored to individual customers needs.

Datron is the sole reseller in the UK for Graphitech, the manufacturer of the Copymate and Cimagrafi software.
