Upgrade takes product lifecycle management further
Dassault Systemes and IBM are releasing Version 5 Release 13 (V5R13) of their product lifecycle management (PLM) portfolio, comprising Catia, Enovia and Smarteam.
By deploying Dassault Systemes' software in conjunction with the Microsoft platform, the companies are focused on delivering greater customer value through easy-to-use solutions that reduce the time and cost involved in product development.
Dassault Systemes' V5 PLM solutions - which enable companies to simulate products virtually in 3D from conception to maintenance across the extended enterprise - include Catia for design, Delmia for manufacturing process, and Enovia and Smarteam for resource management.
V5 PLM solutions from Dassault Systemes have already enabled automotive companies to achieve significant results.
DaimlerChrysler began using Catia for its virtual product development in the late 1980s.
First implemented in a pilot program on the Mercedes-Benz S Class in the body area, Delmia improved manufacturing planning time by about 30%.

MSc students to study PLM
Dassault Systemes is to provide Queen's University Belfast with product lifecycle management solutions for education and research.
In addition, Delmia also helped DaimlerChrysler out in quality and cost.
With Delmia, all development activities from process planning up to completion of the car can be validated in a 3D virtual environment.
Users virtually define, optimise and simulate manufacturing process and resources as well as visualise workforce operability, enabling the company to dramatically reduce cost and identify and correct errors before physical production begins.

As an added benefit, data from the simulations can be reused to author 3D electronic work instructions for the shop floor.
Workers learn new tasks faster after seeing them simulated in 3D using Delmia.

Using Catia V5 DaimlerChrysler's Technical Computer Centre (TCC) has developed knowledge-driven applications for interior, chassis, powertrain and body-in-white domains.
William Whedon, Director, Product Development, Information Technology Management, DaimlerChrysler, said: "The Catia V5 knowledge infrastructure and parametric design functionality allow engineers to conduct quick design modification and validation, which helps us to save time and costs".
"V5 PLM solutions fully integrated with Microsoft platforms enable automotive companies to reduce total cost of ownership and benefit from high and rapid return on investment", said Joel Lemke, President and CEO of Enovia Corp and General Manager, PLM Americas, Dassault Systemes.
"Our PLM solutions provide value for a wide and varied installation base, which includes OEMs such as DaimlerChrysler and Toyota Motor Corp as well as a wide range of suppliers".
The Microsoft Peak Performance Initiative, announced in March 2005, is designed to help the automotive community accelerate insight through advanced analysis services, drive innovation by allowing teams to better collaborate, and impact performance via increased visibility into operations across the manufacturing value chain.
Based on extensive research and feedback from automotive partners, customers and industry experts, the Peak Performance Initiative provides an innovative and cost-effective approach that allows automotive customers to take full advantage of their legacy investments while connecting key systems, people and organisations across the automotive supply chain to remove the barriers that stifle innovation and competitiveness.
"Dassault Systemes is helping customers achieve peak performance by helping design and engineering teams work seamlessly, whether they're around the block or half way around the world", said Kyle Solomon, Worldwide Industry Manager, Automotive at Microsoft Corp.
"Microsoft and Dassault Systemes share a common vision for how automotive manufacturers can abbreviate the product development cycle, reduce costs, and help bring the latest innovations to light in a truly collaborative fashion".
