3D Systems Europe Limited has signed a Volume Purchase Agreement with Align Technology, Inc., a manufacturer of orthodontic products in Sunnyvale, California, USA The terms of the agreement call for the purchase of ten SLA* 7000 solid imaging machines, 3D Systems' top-of-the-line product, by Align over a period of 18 months

The first SLA unit was shipped to Align in March, and the machines will provide an enterprise-wide solution for the rapid manufacture of Align's products.

"We are very committed to growing our business and maintaining our competitive position," stated Zia Chishti, chairman and chief executive officer of Align.

"We believe our partnership with 3D Systems will enable us to achieve these goals." "Align initially purchased its first SLA 7000 system in December of 1999," continued Chishti.

"The successful use of the machine in our customised manufacturing was the catalyst for pursuing a volume purchase agreement with 3D Systems.

The SLA 7000 system provided us with the proven speed, accuracy and manufacturing cost-efficiencies we required." Align Technology's core product, The Invisalign System*, is a customised, removable sequence of orthodontic appliances used to move and straighten teeth.

Stated Brian Service, 3D Systems' president and chief executive officer, "Align's use of the SLA product is a true breakthrough in that it is a rapid manufacturing application rather than a prototyping application.

A large part of our company's growth strategy involves developing mass customisation applications-similar to Align's-that can be used to meet a customer's precise design and manufacturing needs.

Our relationship with Align allows us to expand the markets we currently serve, and also provides recurring revenues from materials and service contracts.".
