3D printing goes live in Birmingham
3D Systems will run a live demonstration of its InVision 3D printer at Solid Modelling 2004 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK on 31st March and 1st April 2004, on booth 59.
It eliminates the time, resources and money wasted when designers and engineers have to interpret and develop product designs using 2D data.
High quality, durable models and prototypes can be produced quickly and cost effectively with exceptional surface finish and feature detail.
By using the InVision printer in-house, the time taken for approval processes can be reduced dramatically, and if approvals are taking place across different locations, the data files can be "faxed" to another printer and the model produced locally.
The InVision printer reduces development costs not only through improved speed of production, but also by offering an effective system for reviewing the design.
The models are neutral in colour so that they can be easily marked up to highlight required alterations.
InVision is ideal for engineers, designers, architects, artists and marketers from a multitude of industries.
For example, it can be used by: merchandising operations to make best use of extremely short lead times for promotional toys to accompany films; by animation and 3D modelling companies to market figurines or character ideas; by architectural firms to communicate and validate complex designs; and by engineering and medical companies to produce preliminary assembly prototypes.
Karl Meyer, President for Gentle Giant Studios said: "The InVision 3D printer is incredible".
"It has given us the ability to build 'perfect' models that have the integrity and resolution that exceed the standards of our industry".
"With the in-house capability of a 3D printer we are able to produce models, prototypes and end-use patterns within hours".
"In our industry - the entertainment industry - the integrity and accuracy of the images we produce is essential".
"We use highly detailed 3D CAD data and with the InVision 3D printer we know we can print an exact three-dimensional model, plus we can do all of this at the fast pace required".
