Data Translation Ltd today announced the release of Global Lab Image/2 version 2.5, a significant upgrade to its flexible Windows-based imaging software package

Data Translation Ltd today announced the release of Global Lab Image/2 (GLI/2) version 2.5, a significant upgrade to its flexible Windows-based imaging software package designed to address the needs of the Scientific Image Analysis (SIA) industry and general-purpose imaging markets GLI/2 is ideal for imaging applications that require measuring, classifying, counting, size distribution analysis, and other measurement and analysis tasks - all in a customisable, easy-to-use programming environment

The enhanced GLI/2 includes additional Data Translation frame grabber support, new measurement and analysis functions, and an array of new tools.

The new streamlined tool user interfaces are enhanced and simplified, making them even faster and easier to use.

GLI/2 version 2.5 has these new robust features:.

- A New Picture Tool that now provides support for more Data Translation (DT) PCI frame grabbers, including the DT3130 Series Frame Grabbers, and the DT3154 MACH Series RGB Frame Grabber.

In addition, the Picture Tool now features an AVI capture capability, allowing the creation of AVI video clips.

A new TWAIN "plug-in" allows GLI/2 to import TWAIN images from scanners, digital cameras, and other devices that use the TWAIN format.

- A New AVI Player Tool that allows captured AVI files to be played and individual images selected and saved for image processing tasks.

- An Enhanced Measurement Tool that has more than forty (40) new gauging and measurement capabilities, including Roundness, Perimeter, Min/Max Distance, Perpendicular Distance, Line Length, Colour Average, and Intersection Angle.

- An Improved Filter Tool that has more than twenty (20) new filter operations, including Shift and Difference, Robert Cross, three variations of Unsharpen, and Line Segmentation.

- A New Edge Finder Tool that allows edges and contours to be extracted from images for precise gauging and measurement.

Product Overview Designed for a wide range of users with different expertise, GLI/2 version 2.5 offers three development levels for programming flexibility.

Moreover, since no two imaging applications are alike, GLI/2 provides the flexibility users need to easily develop programs and customised imaging tools to fit specific application needs.

GLI/2 can be used as: - An out-of-the-box, stand-alone applications package with a large selection of pre-defined image processing tools.

Programming is completed using the Point and Click Script Tool; no code writing is required.

- A base for the addition of user-written custom tools that include a custom Graphical User Interface (GUI).

Programmers can use the existing tools or create entirely new tools.

- A development environment for custom scientific imaging applications, using GLI/2's object-oriented Application Programming Interface (API) function calls.

Users will benefit from the rapid code-less program development, custom scientific application development and custom tool and algorithm development.

In addition, the functionality of the main application and tool library is supplied in the underlying API function calls, accessible using Microsoft Visual C++.

The accompanying User and API manuals include concise information on custom tools, scripting, and the API, as well as step-by-step examples to guide users through the process.

GLI/2 provides an extensive library of more than 20 tools, each useable individually, in a Point and Click Script Program, Custom Script Program, or via API function calls using Microsoft Visual C++.

All tool user interfaces have been designed for ease-of-use and quick implementation.

Global Lab Image/2 version 2.5 will be available at the end of June.

The price remains at ?1,695.00, with upgrades from GLI/2 version 2.0 for £495.00.

A special educational price is offered to all academic establishments of £495.00.
