Vision software meets FDA requirements

A Data Translation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 8, 2005

The latest version of DT Vision Foundry adds support for FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements along with many other new enhancements to image processing and machine vision functions.

Data Translation is shipping the latest version, 3.7, of its DT Vision Foundry software.

It provides added functionality to support FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements along with many other new enhancements to the award winning image processing and machine vision software.

DT Vision Foundry 3.7 supports a wide range of PCI frame grabber boards from Data Translation as well as FireWire (using Direct Show 8.0 protocol) and USB cameras.

Industrial vision applications are being used by an increasing number of manufacturing and processing industries to monitor both in-process and finished products.

Applications include checking fill levels, verifying details on labels (including barcodes), checking for visual defects, comparing colour and confirming that the final product or package contains all the required components.

The new software release gives customers requiring a software audit trail, such as specified within FDA 21 CFR Part 11, the ability to fully document their machine vision programs.

This benefit applies not only to those users within the pharmaceutical industries but to an ever increasing number of industries where manufacturing traceability is considered to be important.

DT Vision Foundry is a powerful PC-based visual software environment for quickly creating automated inspection applications.

In addition to the many image acquisition, processing, inspection, and analysis tools, DT Vision Foundry 3.7 now allows the user the ability to comply with the FDA 21 CFR 11 requirements pertaining to electronic record keeping and electronic signatures.

Administrators can electronically establish and control user privileges with the access control functionality found in DT Vision Foundry 3.7.

A readable event log function allows users the ability to log information, including a system time stamp, into a protected event log file.

Only authorised users can view and print out the event log data.

Additionally, a digital fingerprint function ensures that no unauthorised changes can be made to the log and changes made to a script by the user are automatically saved and time stamped.

Within version 3.7 many detail features have been added to further enhance DT Vision Foundry's ease of use, widely recognised as one of the product's key strengths.

Amongst these is a new RGB colour plane splitter tool to make colour applications easier to resolve.

Many new region of interest (ROI) capabilities have been added such as intersection and aligned fit, ROI rotation variables set to any value, ROI positioning at absolute locations, and colour property settings for each ROI generating tool.
