USB acquisition modules have industrial strengths

A Data Translation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 7, 2007

Modules are ideal for process control, control loop and test applications requiring stable and accurate output signals.

The DT9853 Series of low cost USB bus-powered D/A modules available now from Data Translation are optimised for use in harsh environments.

Contrary to the popular use of USB modules in benign lab-type applications, the DT9853 series is fully isolated to +/-300V and provides voltage as well as the industrial standard 0 to 20mA current outputs concurrently.

They operate as high speed USB devices for maximum speed and accuracy.

According to Fred Molinari, President, and CEO of Data Translation: "The DT9853 Series is ideal for process control, control loop and test applications requiring stable and accurate output signals".

"The plug and play installation of these USB modules simplify configuration and reduce setup time while offering unrivalled isolation and superior accuracy".

The DT9853 Series of low-cost analogue output and digital I/O modules for USB offer: four or eight analogue outputs with 16bit resolution for highly accurate measurements; 16 dedicated digital I/O lines for dedicated external event synchronisation; interrupt on change support ideal for monitoring and controlling critical signals; and output ranges of 0-10V, +/-10V and 0-20mA for maximum flexibility.

The modules feature a scalable design for easy connection of high-channel-count applications, and include a 32bit counter/timer for counting external events.

The DT9853 Series of USB output modules are available in the following models.

The DT9853 offers four channels, 16bit resolution with 16 digital I/O channels and output ranges of 0-10 and +/-10V.

The DT9853-M offers four channels, 16bit resolution with 16 digital I/O channels and output ranges of 0-10V, +/-10V and 0-20mA.

The DT9854 has eight channels, 16bit resolution with 16 digital I/O channels and output ranges of 0-10 and +/-10V.

And the DT9854-M also has eight channels, 16bit resolution with 16 digital I/O channels and output ranges of 0-10V, +/-10V and 0-20mA.

Many software choices for easy application development are available for the DT9853 Series.

All DT9853 Series modules ship with the Omni CD which offers a variety of software tools and libraries.

Additionally, other ready to measure software programs for test and measurement including the powerful easy to use graphical application program Measure Foundry are available.
