DuPont has launched a new website that gives automotive designers and engineers valuable resources for meeting the challenges of next-generation electrical and electronic systems and components The website, www.42volt.dupont.com, provides general and detailed information about challenges and opportunities posed by the shift to higher-voltage electrical systems in the next generation of cars, and describes the many advanced DuPont solutions and resources to help meet them

Such systems will allow automotive designers to install additional and improve existing electronics that increase fuel economy, reduce emissions, enhance car entertainment options, and improve comfort, safety and performance.

The website covers technical issues in six specific automotive systems.

They include electrical distribution, electronic controls, integrated starter-alternators, thermal management, air conditioning and other "X-by-wire" systems such as steering, brakes or throttle control.

The site outlines DuPont solutions and expertise in six technical challenge areas that are found across the systems: arc resistance, electrical insulation, EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding, flame-retardant technology, high-temperature performance and miniaturisation.

It also invites customers to collaborate in applying those solutions to specific automotive systems and components.

"The site that we launch today is a great starting point for designers, but it's just a first step", says Tim Brogla, e-business leader for the DuPont Advanced Automotive E/E Venture.

"In future versions, we will continuously enhance and expand the content, and for our development partners we will create customised work spaces and other interactive collaboration tools".

The site currently offers visitors a language choice of English or German.

A Japanese language option will be available shortly.
