Expanded acrylic elastomer range goes on show

A DuPont (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 19, 2006

DuPont's exhibit at DKT 2006 in Nuremberg will focus on developments within the company's Vamac ethylene acrylic elastomers business.

DuPont's exhibit at DKT 2006 (German rubber conference) in Nuremberg, Germany, from 3rd to 6th July 2006, will focus on developments within the company's Vamac ethylene acrylic elastomers business.

These include the expansion of the Vamac product range with the recent introduction of three new grades, as well as notable applications of the material in the automotive and aerospace industries.

Two additions to the elastomers portfolio of DuPont Performance Materials will complement the Vamac display at Booth 1-116: DuPont ACE acrylic co-elastomer and DuPont ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizates.

Striving to meet customer expectations for product performance, service and innovation, the addition of new Vamac grades provides greater scope in terms of processing and finished-part durability: DuPont Vamac MR delivers multiple benefits as an impact modifier for adhesives, coatings and other thermoset resin systems.

Vamac DHC offers a higher state of cure and improved compression set within the business' range of peroxide curable dipolymers, and is of interest to applications requiring fast curing with no-post-cure.

Vamac GXF has already found broad use in applications requiring superior resistance to dynamic load at high temperature and in presence of oil.

The appeal of the broadened product offering is reflected in recent, notable applications, such as the use of Vamac in gaskets for the new Airbus A380, propshaft boots for the transmissions of four-wheel drive cars, turbo hoses for diesel cars and engine management gas tubes.

In all of the above, the specific grades involved provide a cost-effective solution and an outstanding combination of temperature resistance, oil resistance and vibration damping consistency.

Commenting on the Vamac participation at DKT and recent developments within the business, Marco Coletta, Global Marketing Director for DuPont Vamac said: "The use of Vamac continues to grow, in place of traditional elastomers for components where the automotive industry needs higher performance, as well as in new applications".

"Looking forward, more demanding legislation and voluntary industry standards aimed at reducing automotive emissions will drive many technology changes in the powertrain system".

"Our expanded product range, and experimental grades still under development, will respond effectively to these new requirements".
