Polymer presentations focus on design aspects

A DuPont (UK) product story

DuPont Engineering Polymers is tailoring the presentation of its portfolio of high-performance polymers at PDM 2006 to address designers and design engineers.

Recognising the role of designers and design engineers in the development of polymer-based products, DuPont Engineering Polymers is tailoring the presentation of its portfolio of high-performance polymers at PDM 2006 (Telford, 26th to 28th September 2006) to address this specific audience.

The exhibit in Hall 2, Stand G21, will portray a range of commercialised polymer parts and components, by both area of application and functional performance, in an innovative "three-dimensional" display conceived by the industrial designer Chris Lefteri.

According to Lefteri, the innovative stand layout "is based on having a three-dimensional map that allows designers to make new connections by cross referencing applications with material properties".

Key components are the 60 commercial samples which are grouped to reflect six different industries: consumer, electrical and electronics, healthcare, industrial, sport and leisure and transportation.

Simultaneously, each sample is visually tagged to reflect a key material property of DuPont's high-performance polymers - ie either that of flexible performance, high-temperature resistance or mechanical functionality.

The result is that, depending on the viewer's position on the stand, the samples are aligned with a line of sight that corresponds to one of these properties, across all six areas of application.

Explaining the creative process behind his concept, Lefteri adds: "The inspiration for the concept was born out of the history DuPont has with making new discoveries and looking at the world from different perspectives and finding inspiration from different places".

"The requirements of designers to look beyond the given mechanical and technical properties of materials into a more sensorial application are reflected in the DuPont stand".

Lefteri was engaged by DuPont in the creative conception and design of its stand following the popularity of the designer's own Design Resource Centre at PDM 05, which will be repeated at the show this year.

According to DuPont, the company's continued participation at PDM reflects the show's success in attracting the design community at its inaugural event in April 2005.

"The UK still has a lot of development and decision making on material selection", says Myriam Vansteenkiste, Northern Europe Sales Manager at DuPont Engineering Polymers.

"We are delighted at how, based on last year's experience, PDM is on its way to establishing itself as the forum to engage designers and engineers in the development of polymer products".

"We have therefore tailored our exhibit to facilitate that process".
