DuPont (NYSE:DD) today opened a technical centre near Moscow to support Russian manufacturers who use the company's titanium dioxide (TiO2) products.

DuPont has opened a technical centre near Moscow to support Russian manufacturers who use the company's titanium dioxide (TiO2) products in the country's rapidly expanding coatings, plastics and paper industries.

Titanium dioxide is a brilliant white pigment used to make products bright, white and opaque.

"Russia is one of the fastest growing markets for TiO2 in the world because of the rapid expansion of industries producing consumer goods", said Richard Olson, Vice President and General Manager of DuPont Titanium Technologies.

"Increased demand for TiO2 usually signals the emergence of more affluent consumers who are interested in high-quality home improvement products that incorporate TiO2".

"This facility demonstrates our strategy of going where the growth is and locating near our customers".

The new technical centre in the city of Dzerzhinsk is co-located with the Radian Company, DuPont's distributor of titanium dioxide in Russia.

TiO2 specialists in the new facility will work with formulators of finishes and plastics as well as paper manufacturers on the most efficient and effective ways of incorporating TiO2 into their products.

DuPont investment in the facility was not disclosed.

DuPont Titanium Technologies is the world's largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide, serving customers globally in the coatings, paper and plastics industries.

DuPont has announced plans to build a world-class TiO2 plant at Dongying, China.

Total investment for the project is estimated at US $1 billion.

When completed, this will be DuPont's largest single investment outside the United States.

DuPont operates titanium dioxide manufacturing plants in the United States at Edge Moor, Delaware, New Johnsonville, Tennessee., and DeLisle, Mississippi.

In addition to the planned Dongying unit, DuPont also operates manufacturing plants at Altamira, Mexico, and Kuan Yin, Taiwan.

The company has a TiO2 finishing plant at Uberaba, Brazil.

Technical service centres are located in Uberaba; Mechelen, Belgium; Kuan Yin; Wilmington, Del.; Shanghai, China; and Moscow to serve the European, Middle Eastern, US and Asian markets.
