Watson takes charge of awarding body

An EAL product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 26, 2005

Ann Watson has been appointed to the role of Managing Director of EAL, the leading awarding body for engineering and technology qualifications.

Ann Watson has been appointed to the role of Managing Director of EAL, the leading awarding body for engineering and technology qualifications.

She replaces Elizabeth Bonfield who leaves to take on a key new role with EAL's sister organisation SEMTA, the Sector Skills Council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies.

With a first class honours degree in business studies and a strong marketing background, Watson has held senior positions within EAL since 1998.

She held the post of Product Manager for the last four years where she worked closely alongside Elizabeth Bonfield.

Her appointment to the MD role will ensure continuity of EAL's operations and an increased commitment to customer services.

It is business as usual, according to Watson, who has a good understanding of the industry and vocational qualifications together with a clear customer focus.

"I am looking forward to continuing Elizabeth's good work and there will be no major changes to EAL", she says.

"We already award 70% of all engineering vocational qualifications in the UK".

"I want to increase that market share".

"I see my role very much as supporting customers and I'm committed to listening and talking to them to find out what they want from EAL".

The awarding body expects to increase the number of qualifications it offers in its specialist field, extending to the electrical installation, electro-technical and engineering building services sectors.

"The EAL portfolio will continually expand as we build on what we're good at and consolidate our position as the number one awarding body for engineering", Watson says.

Elizabeth Bonfield comments: "I'm delighted by Ann's appointment".

"She is very well placed to lead EAL".

"I'm very proud of the strong links SEMTA has with EAL and look forward to maintaining them as I continue to promote the uptake of qualifications".

"It's important to have products that employers want and having a subsidiary body that develops them is a real advantage".
