Magnetic filter cuts cartridge clogging

An Eclipse Magnetics product story

Impact Tool Room Services recently installed a 5in Micromag filter onto an existing EDM machine to prefilter returning fluid prior to the existing cartridge filters.

Impact Tool Room Services of Sheffield recently installed a 5in Micromag filter from Eclipse Magnetics onto its existing EDM machine to prefilter returning fluid prior to the existing cartridge filters.

David Hey, Production Director at Impact, comments: "We decided to install the Micromag unit to reduce our existing cartridge usage, which was costing us GBP 140 a month".

"One thing we never expected was the improved surface finish due to the elimination of recirculating submicron particles and the improved visual appearance of the machine itself".

"Our cartridge change over has been extended to three months allowing us to increase our productivity".

"Due to the benefits we've seen on the EDM we are now considering installing 20in units on all of our surface and cylindrical grinders".

Micromag, is the latest generation of magnetic filter and can be used in any fluid application where ferrous or paramagnetic contamination is present.

The unit is especially affective with machine tool oils and coolants.

Micromag is available in three housing sizes: 5 and 10in with 1in inlet/outlet ports and a 20in unit with 1.5in ports.

All units are supplied with port adapters to suit most pipe connection sizes.

Eclipse Magnetics reckons Micromag has many benefits over more conventional forms of filtration, including: submicron filtration efficiency - if the particle is magnetic the Micromag will remove it; no loss of fluid due to changing oil sodden cartridges; no pressure drop, even when fully loaded with contamination; no consumables required, ever - once purchased the unit doesn't require ongoing spend resulting in lower operating costs; no maintenance required, only operator intervention to clean; reduced environmental impact, the only residue is metallic material that can be collected by any materials supplier; it is capable of removing abrasives and nonmagnetic material by means of heterocoagulation; reduced machine downtime, increased productivity; and visual inspection of fluid being filtered.

The Micromag range starts at just GBP 295 and is available from stock.

Other accessories available to complement the range are housing spanners, lid mounting brackets, Viton seals and spare magnetic cores.
