Economatics is now supplying the ultracool range of industrial water chillers Combining high-efficiency with total process security, ultracool, developed and introduced by Ultrafilter Limited, is a new range of dedicated, stand-alone, industrial water chillers that are extremely cost-effective and energy efficient compared to traditional cooling techniques

In many production processes water is used to conduct away damaging heat generated by the mechanical operation or chemical reaction.

In a typically modern and demanding manufacturing environment, the continuous use of fresh water has a high cost implication in the production process.

An ultracool chiller uses a closed-circuit water chiller that not only allows recycling of water for the cooling process, but also ensures that it is always at the optimum, pre-set temperature to best suit the production process in question.

"Cooling water at around ambient temperature is insufficient for most processes," explains Graeme Fuller of ultrafilter.

"To guarantee a secure production process the cooling water should be chilled to a consistent, pre-determined temperature by a water chiller such as ultracool." Used to supply chilling water for the production process, Economatics has already notched up several successful installations where the ultracool unit is providing chilled water at a consistent temperature, ensuring a constant supply is maintained irrespective of fluctuations in demand.

Water for the production process is taken into the generously sized heat exchanger where it is chilled by a separate refrigerant unit by use of environmentally friendly and non-ozone harming refrigerants.

The refrigerant circuit ensures that the pre-set temperature is achieved.

Another 'cool' feature of the ultracool chiller is its small footprint.

The ultracool range comes in two distinct styles related to capacity, namely the ultracool mini and the ultracool midi.

The ultracool mini series covers 10 units with cooling performances between 1.86 and 33.55 kW (1600 kcal/h to 28850 kcal/h), with the capability of handling nominal water flow rates up to 5770 litres/hour.

An hermetically closed refrigerant circuit utilises environmentally friendly refrigerant R 134a.

Cooling performances above 30 kW are covered by the ultracool midi series, which includes 7 models for cooling performances from 40 kW to 170 kW (34400 kcal/h to 146200 kcal/h).

Motors are circuit breaker protected, high and low pressure security switches along with flow and level switches add further protection to the system.

In demanding operating conditions, the ultracool range is available in an ultrafilter Superplus format, which incorporates an internal by-pass system, water filtration to 50 Micron and a stainless steel pump.

This format ensures secure processing of the chilling water in fluctuating and demanding conditions synonymous with many production processes.

The process water is simply stored and when necessary pumped on-demand into the heat exchanger to ensure a continuous supply of temperature constant chilled water whatever the prevailing conditions.

To maintain a constant level of chilled water, irrespective of the operational load, the ultracool Superplus is equipped with an internal by-pass system.

"For economy of use and sheer efficiency the ultracool range of water chillers combine ultrafilter's extensive expertise in production process solutions along with operationally proven refrigerant technology to provide a cost-effective solution to the supply of chilled cooling water for industrial use.

The tie up with Economatics means the sale, installation and servicing is equally matched to the high quality product design," concludes ultrafilter's Graeme Fuller.
