Edbro introduces C Series cylinder range

An Edbro product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 14, 2009

Edbro's C Series cylinder range is lighter and stronger than previous Edbro cylinders and allows faster tipping cycles.

The C Series features high-grade forgings within the base tube and has benefitted from laser-welding techniques.

New to the base tube is an environmental plate, incorporated to prevent corrosion and damage from harsh external operating conditions and therefore prolonging the durability of the cylinder.

The C Series retains many of the Edbro cylinder features, such as the laser-welded one-piece tube construction.

The one-piece tube minimises the cylinder weight, eliminates the need for clip rings and grooves and provides ultimate reliability, even when used in fast and intensive tipping operations.

The Edbro high performance two-piece seal design reduces friction in operation, increasing seal life.

The double-lip wiper seals, non-metallic wear rings and silicon brass sliders all combine to further enhance the durability.

At Edbro's UK research site, new cylinder designs are tipped continuously to more than 10,000 cycles to ensure that products withstand the toughest operating conditions.

Side-load rig testing applies loads equivalent to those in the most severe applications to a fully extended, pressurised cylinder.

Tilt testing is used to establish the stability of a whole vehicle when fully loaded and fully tipped, with the vehicle subjected to varying angles of up to 10 degrees depending on the stability of the whole vehicle under test.

The objective of such tests is to ensure the cylinder remains within its stress limits and withstands whatever load the vehicle body may apply prior to the point of instability.
