CAD system validates motion behaviour
D-Cubed's Assembly Engineering Manager component has been used to enhance the motion simulation capability of Solid Edge Version 15.
Solid Edge's Rapid Blue enables fast-track 3D design iteration by providing flexibility in styling without concern for history, enabling users to "design with insight" and iterate design alternatives easier and faster.
"The inclusion of shape creation capabilities was a major factor in our decision to move to Solid Edge", said Jim Harrower, Design Projects Manager at Crown UCP.
"We had considered migrating to Solid Edge for some time, but the Rapid Blue enhancements proved to be the final push.
We are now able to create larger and even more varied designs.
In addition, we receive regular software updates - something not available with the previous Unix-based system we were using".
Crown UCP currently has six Solid Edge licences with plans to acquire more to complete the phasing out of its Unix-based software by the end of 2004.
"The PC-based format of Solid Edge allows us to integrate it with many other applications, thereby enabling technical as well as non-CAD departments to access design information.
Showing designs or a sample to customers has ceased to be a time-consuming or complex process", added Harrower.
Designers working within the FMCG sectors (fast moving consumer goods) will find the shape creation tools beneficial as they are geared towards the fast creation of aesthetically pleasing consumer product designs where the form need not be limited by functionality.
Crown UCP acquired the application through Solid Applications - one of Europe's largest value-added resellers of CAD solutions.
Solid Applications implemented the software and provides ongoing support.
