In addition, Microsoft has launched its Programme for Collaborative Product Development (CPD), a go-to-market initiative to partner with market leaders to deliver Microsoft technology to a segment of the PLM market.
UGS further extends the Programme for CPD by adding support for product data management (PDM), customer needs management (CNM) and direct materials sourcing (DMS.) PLM is an enterprise business strategy through which organisations digitally manage their products from concept to retirement.

According to Daratech, the global market for PLM software and services is expected to grow by a compound annual growth rate of eight per cent through 2007 to more than US $9.2 billion.
Daratech expects the product data management and collaboration segment of the PLM market, which UGS leads on the strength of its Teamcenter portfolio, to grow 16%, compounded annually, to 2007.
"By working with Microsoft and building on our technologies, UGS continues to deliver PLM solutions that meet the demands of our joint customers", said Don Richardson, Director, Manufacturing Industry Unit at Microsoft.
"The PLM domain expertise and industry knowledge of UGS combined with Microsoft's collaboration and development tools, allow us to deliver solutions that help customers realise a lower total cost of ownership while maximising their existing technology investments".
UGS and Microsoft plan to jointly pursue sales opportunities where the goal is to increase awareness and demand for PLM solutions.
The two companies will communicate the joint value proposition of UGS solutions built on the Microsoft technology platform.

The two companies launched the market-facing thrust of the programme at the Product Development Management Association (PDMA) annual, international conference in Chicago, where both UGS and Microsoft are sponsors and exhibitors.
Ongoing go-to-market activities will include executive and regional seminars, webinars and other joint marketing communications targeted at the two companies' mutual customers.
