UGS Corp has announced the latest release of Teamcenter for MRO, the set of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities within the world's most widely used PLM software portfolio.

UGS Corp has announced the latest release of Teamcenter for MRO, the set of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities within the world's most widely used PLM software portfolio With several customer-driven enhancements and a new materials management module, Teamcenter for MRO extends its ability to significantly reduce the maintenance cycle time and costs associated with servicing complex commercial and military products that require a major capital investment, such as aircraft, weapon systems, ships and power plants

"By leveraging the industry-leading configuration management functionality in Teamcenter, MRO organisations have a single source of asset definition and management", said Steve Bashada, Vice President of Teamcenter Applications, UGS.

"As a result, enterprises can ensure that all their processes and organisations are working from the same accurate knowledge base for all activities through configuration-driven applications".

"With the capabilities announced today, Teamcenter for MRO creates even more value by allowing organisations to maintain greater control of their capital investments and their suppliers".

Companies maintaining high value assets can benefit from Teamcenter for MRO's ability to provide accurate information from a single high integrity source that is tied to the proper product configuration.

"Our research indicates that best-in-class service organisations rely on rich asset data pertaining to design and configuration throughout the useful life of complex, mission-critical products", said Mark Vigoroso, Chief Research Officer and SVP, Service Chain Research at the AberdeenGroup.

Teamcenter for MRO provides the capabilities required to establish a truly integrated environment for service operations.

Capabilities include workflow, collaboration, complex document management, change control, work definition and management, advanced configuration management, records retention management as well as role-based and full International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) security support for multinational operations.

This announcement extends the capabilities in many of these areas and adds a new functional module for materials management.

The Materials Management module allows organisations to control their capital investment made in inventory, spares, tools and equipment from the request/requirement phase through to order, receipt, repair, issue and disposal.

It provides the user with information to optimise the utilisation of inventory as well as manage the performance and bids from their vendors.

Additional Teamcenter for MRO enhancements include: in-service functionality permitting MRO-focused organisations to understand the complete accurate configuration and life status of all traceable parts; maintenance planning and execution improvements that support lean MRO through MRO requirements and frequency definitions, work planning and work forecasting; new service event management functionality allows organisations to record and report execution of service events done by external parties thus providing a co-ordinated feedback loop to manufacturers to support design for service improvements; and the new materials management module brings inventory, part and vendor management permitting service organisations greater control of resources and processes supporting MRO activities such as part cataloging, vendor quotes, part requests, ordering, stocking, repair and issuance to jobs.

"Expansion of our existing Teamcenter implementation with MRO solutions is a perfect fit to our business", said Jim Wall, Director of Engine Engineering from Hendrick Motorsports.

"We remanufacture over 700 race engines each year and 23 other critical assemblies".

"To win races you have to put 100% accurate race configurations on the track".

"We need to have test and performance data accessible anywhere".

"We also need to track lifecycle usage on critical serialised assemblies and implement changes across the fleet within three days between race events".

"We rely on Teamcenter with MRO capabilities to manage these key processes".

"By doing so, we believe we improve race performance, reliability and durability - key elements to winning races".
