Analysis software chosen for rocket science

The Nagoya Guidance and Propulsion Systems Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has selected UGS' NX Nastran software to perform the structural analysis of its rocket engines.
MHI selected NX Nastran as one of its important analysis solvers following the benchmark study.
NX Nastran's large-scale analysis capabilities, advanced structural analysis technology and high performance computing were all key decision factors in the selection.
Large-scale analysis is critical to minimise the cost for manufacturing and physical testing of rocket engines, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars each.
Structural analysis is essential for rocket engine development to ensure functionality and durability prior to launch.
High performance computing is necessary to analyse larger models.
NX Nastran's parallel calculation performance of linear static analysis and engine value analysis of 1.5 to 2 million node points provides significant value to MHI.
"We selected UGS' NX Nastran because it can execute critical structural analysis that we were not able to do with our legacy system", said Takashi Ito, Engine and Control Equipment Engineering Department, Nagoya Guidance and Propulsion System Works, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
"UGS provides MHI the scalability and performance we need to continue to enhance innovation".
"We look forward to leveraging NX Nastran's nonlinear capabilities in the near future".
"UGS is pleased to work with MHI, Japan's leading aerospace manufacturer, and contribute to the development of the leading-edge rocket engine", said Haruyoshi Iida, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Japan Operations, UGS.
"Earlier this year we announced several aerospace and automotive industry leaders as new customers of NX Nastran".
"Today's announcement highlights NX Nastran's momentum, its high product quality and serves to reinforce the role of CAE as a key component of a comprehensive PLM strategy".
NX Nastran, which is at the core of UGS' lifecycle simulation strategy, has set the standard for high performance computer-aided engineering (CAE) and enables real-time simulation throughout the product lifecycle.
