Battery manufacturer is a Star

An EnerSys product story

EnerSys has achieved Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Programme at its Hays, Kansas facility.

EnerSys has achieved Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programme (VPP) at its Hays, Kansas facility.

Star status is the highest commendation given under the VPP for sustained excellence in all areas of safety and health management systems.

EnerSys' Hays plant is the first battery-manufacturing site in the USA and the third facility in the state of Kansas to advance to Star status.

Currently, only 1% of American businesses have attained Star status.

OSHA first recognised the Hays facility for industry leading safety and health management systems in 1998 by awarding it Merit status, which Hays maintained until the recent advance to Star status.

The facility attained Star status by going beyond OSHA's safety and health management standards, implementing co-operative programmes between managers and employees to reduce accidents and eliminate safety hazards.

These programmes resulted in injury and illness rates lower than the industry average.

The Hays plant manufactures large reserve power batteries for telecommunications, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and utility applications.

EnerSys, which is based in Reading, PA, has been a member of the Hays business community since 1989.
