A reception to celebrate the development of EEVL: the Internet Guide to Engineering, Mathematics and Computing was held in the beautiful setting of the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh on Wednesday 12th September The reception was in conjunction with the ALT-C conference, held in Edinburgh University

Roddy MacLeod, the EEVL Manager, began proceedings welcoming everyone to the reception and read out congratulatory emails from institutions such as AVEL, the Australian Engineering Virtual Library.

Michael Breaks, the EEVL Director, gave a brief history of the EEVL service and its place within the Resource Discovery Network before outlining plans for the future, including portal development.

In addition to Heriot Watt University, the partners in the EEVL service are University of Birmingham, University of Ulster and Cranfield University, and staff were present from all four.

Also present were EEVL subject consultants from Imperial College London, Sheffield University and Nottingham Trent University, and a sponsor of the event, RS Online.

The second sponsor of the event, Adept plc, could unfortunately not be present.

In all, over 100 people watched Heriot Watt University Vice- Principal Gareth Owen cut a cake decorated with the distinctive EEVL eye.

We were pleased to welcome representitives from LTSNs, Regional Support Centres, industry, education and research, as well as two small children who we hope will become future users of our service - EEVL would like to thank everyone who came to the event and who use and support the current EEVL and MathGate services.

The new enhanced EEVL web site will be available shortly.

The new site will allow cross-searching over over 8,000 quality records in engineering, mathematics and computing, as well as full-text search engines, bibliographic databases, and will be available from the same address: www.eevl.ac.uk.
